The Major Responsibilities of the Pupil Evaluation Team (PET)
The major responsibilities of the Pupil Evaluation Team (PET)
are:
- To determine initial or ongoing eligibility for special education
by reviewing evaluations, classroom-based assessments, teacher
observations, information from professionals who provide supportive
services and other participants, and parental input;
- To recommend additional evaluations if/when necessary;
- To determine present levels of performance and educational
needs in all affected academic and nonacademic areas;
- To develop or revise the Individual Educational Program (IEP)
and identify modifications and or adaptations that may be needed;
- To review the IEP at least annually (either at the end of
the school year or on the anniversary of the previous IEP);
and
- To identify the least restrictive educational environment
(LRE) alternative (LREA) in which to implement the IEP and determine
placement.
