Web Browser Access
To access a list of all available PDF documents on this CD, select the Documents for Print menu item at the bottom of the browser window.
To open a PDF file, follow these steps:
Windows
Internet Explorer or Netscape
- Click the PDF file you would like to open. If Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® is installed correctly on your system, the file will open automatically, right within the browser.
Macintosh
Internet Explorer
- Click the PDF file you would like to open. If Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® is installed correctly on your system, the file will open automatically in Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®.
Netscape
- Click the PDF file you would like to open.
- A download dialog box will appear with the following prompt: "You have chosen to download a file of type: 'Portable Document Format'...What should Netscape do with this file?" This is a standard prompt that Netscape uses when it encounters certain file types that it cannot display directly within the browser window. In this case, the file will not be "downloaded" from the Web (you do not need a Web connection), but simply copied from the CD to your hard drive. Select the option, "Open using Acrobat Reader." Once the file has been copied, it will open automatically in Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®.
If you want Netscape to automatically open other PDF files, instead of prompting you first, deselect the option, "Always ask before opening this type of file." The next time you click a PDF file, it will automatically copy the file and then open it in Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®.
Please note: depending on which version of Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® is installed on your system, and whether that version was installed before or after the Web browser was installed, the Web browser may not know what to do with a PDF document. If you are unable to open a PDF document from the Web browser, try accessing it from your computer's file browser (referred to as Windows Explorer on Windows, and the Finder on the Macintosh). See the section on Accessing PDF files through the file browser for more information on locating the files.
